Researching a Neighborhood From the Comfort of Your Own Home

Searching for a new home is a daunting task. Busy filtering through disclosures, and finding the right deal, many forget that you also need to research the neighborhood where you will soon be living.

Below I have compiled several tools to help you get started in researching the neighborhood of your new home:

Home for sale
Crime in your neighborhood

Crimereports.com is a service which collects police reports and presents them to you in an easy to read google map.

Crime reports have a great feature that allows you to type in a prospective address and view all the different police reports for a given area. Details include when and where the crime happened and what type of incident it was. Crime Reports allows you to view crime reports compiled over the previous six months to allow you to get a feel for the safety of your new potential home.

Schools

Great School is a comprehensive resource for information on different schools. The website uses their own grading criteria as well as a community rating including input from parents of students to measure both public and private schools. Great schools list over 200,000 schooling opportunities ranging from preschool through high school. When you type in the neighborhood you are considering GreatSchools will give you detailed information on all of the schools in the area to aid you in your decision. Shopping & Amenities

Not a fan of driving? If close proximity to shopping and entertainment is a must, WalkScore is a fantastic way to qualify a potential neighborhood.

Walkscore allows you to enter an address and get a google map of the different shops, schools, and amenities in the area. WalkScore also provides a ranking to allow you to compare and contrast different neighborhoods you are interested in. Learn more at www.walkscore.com

Compare your new potential home with others in the neighborhood

Curious if you are getting the right price for your home? Check out my website. The property search feature can be found here: realhomesatlanta.com

My property search tab allows you to view a majority of the homes currently for sale in the Atlanta Area. The search feature covers neighborhoods such as Buckhead, Midtown, Brookhaven, Decatur, and Marietta.

Search out properties in the area with comparable features to the home you are considering. This will help you make sure you are offering a fair price for your new home and not submitting offers priced too high or with no chance of succeeding against the competition.

If you are looking for homes beyond the Atlanta area we can assist you in your home search, just visit our website realhomesatlanta.com to search homes in your area.

This will get you started but the best way to get acquainted with your new neighborhood is to head over and spend some time meeting people and checking out your surroundings in person.
